Shtip has left numerous traces in history. The name Astibo was mentioned for the first time by the ancient chronicler Polyenvo (3rd century BC). He wrote that in Astibo (today’s Bregalnica) ritual bathing of the Peon kings was performed. Astibo is mentioned again in the Tabula Peutinghemiana (ancient map from the 4th century) as a
